Recreational Gymnastics

Athlone Gymnastics Club is primarily a recreational gymnastics club that prides itself on developing each gymnasts’ skills to a level that allows them to reach their full potential as a gymnast.  There is no one size fits all in the sport, each child is different.  Our coaches use their knowledge and gymnastics programs to guide them in their class planning.  The main objective being to develop the skills of the gymnasts to an achievable standard.

Our coaches strive to get the most out of the gymnasts and encourage them to always do their best while still having fun and making new friends along the way.  Gymnastics is a disciplined sport and it can take time and perseverance to achieve a new skill.  It contributes greatly to other sports through developing good coordination, strength, flexibility, mobility and encourages focus.

Gymnastics is a highly skilled sport – the foundations of each element on all four/six apparatus in the sport take time to develop.  Transition to advanced/high-performance competitive groups is by invitation only and through assessment by our Head Competition Coach.  This will also depend on space available within the competitive program along with evaluation of commitment, work ethic, attendance, etc.

We strive to ensure progress is made throughout each term in a safe and fun environment where each gymnast feels they are recognised and valued in the group setting.

We are currently restructuring our recreational program where coaches will be tracking progress of all gymnasts throughout the term, the aim of which is for gymnast to achieve skills to a very high standard rather.  This progression tracker is not a test of any sort and the information will be used to assist coaches to work with gymnasts to progress and develop their skills in accordance with the child’s ability.

If you wish to discuss  your child’s progress with their coach, please email administrator@athlonegymnasticsclub.ie who will arrange a suitable time to meet the coach, we ask you please not to interrupt coaches whilst they are coaching as this is taking them away from their coaching time and the children in the class.
